Welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)! |
---|
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to Humaniki, only 20.13% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red! |

This month, Women in Red, is focusing on its tenth birthday and on Kenya. We chose Kenya, because it will be the location of this year's Wikimania. It's not our first editathon in Kenya. We did one some years back when we did a 24 hour editathon. Part of the editathon was hosted in Nairobi by Carol Mwaura and she is one of the co-authors of a paper that will be presented at a pre-conference of Wikimania.
By all means, donate an improved article or two but the challenge of "Ten for Kenya". A new article for every year of Women in Red.
Below we have collected a number of red-lists that include lots of Kenyan women to write about. Feel free to have a look at these if you want to know where to get started. We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about these notable women. We think you will find some interesting insights into life in Kenya and its interesting history. One updated article is a very welcome contribution ... one or two might manage "Ten for Kenya!"
The main goals of the event are:
to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
