Summer Lynn Lee (born November 26, 1987)[1] is an American politician who is the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district since 2023. Lee was the Democratic nominee in the 2022 election to represent Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. She won the primary by less than 1% of the vote and became the first black woman from Pennsylvania in the House of Representatives after winning the general election.[2][3][4][5]
A member of the Democratic Party, Lee was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 34th district from 2019 to 2022.[6] Lee was also the first black woman to represent Southwestern Pennsylvania in the state legislature.[6] Lee is a former member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). The group supported her in her initial run for state office, but she departed after disagreements with the organization's Pittsburgh chapter.[7][8] She has been associated with the group of young left-leaning Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives known as "The Squad".[9]
