Computer network engineering

Computer network engineering is a technology discipline within engineering that deals with the design, implementation, and management of computer networks. These systems contain both physical components, such as routers, switches, cables, and some logical elements, such as protocols and network services. Computer network engineers attempt to ensure that the data is transmitted efficiently, securely, and reliably over both local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs), as well as across the Internet.[1]

Computer networks often play a large role in modern industries ranging from telecommunications to cloud computing, enabling processes such as email and file sharing, as well as complex real-time services like video conferencing and online gaming.[2]
